The fascinating exhibition The Lure of Beauty which was made possible by Sharjah Museums Department in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Information, will take place between the 25th of September to the 30th of November 2013 at Sharjah Art Museum. This new exhibition will feature illustrations and photographs from the collection of the famous Martin Fervers.

Sharjah Art Museum was built in 1977, as the largest art museum in the Gulf, it includes  both temporary and permanent collections by well-known artists. As the only museum of modern art in the UAE, visitors will view a different world of extraordinary art. The Lure of Beauty is an excellent example of the fine exhibitions that are hosted in the Museum.

The art collector, Martin Fervers, started with his artistic photography at the beginning of the 1990's while working as a business lawyer. As he grew more fondly of the process of documentation and interpretation, his passion for collecting fashion photography grew stronger. He goes on to explain, “Impressive photographic motifs appealed to my inner being and summoned feelings within me that made me yearn for more”.

The Lure of Beauty documents fashion drawings and photography from the 20th century, to the 1950's and 60's to the turn of the millennium. The 350 illustrations and photographs in this collection create a beautiful montage that brings out all the different styles that were popular throughout the century.

The exhibition also includes drawings of coats, furs and hats from the house of Jeanne Lanvin dating back to the 1920's. It also includes sketches from 1930-60 that were initially created for labels like Christian Dior, Jacques Fath and Pierre Balmain. Also, sketches that belonged to fashion magazines including Harper's Bazaar, Gazette and Vogue are featured in another grouping.

The Lure of Beauty will take place between the 25th of September to the 30th of November 2013 at Sharjah Art Museum.
