The Butik is an online retailer that connects customers with both emerging and established designers from all around the world that have not been introduced to this region before. According to Faye Al Ismail and Futtaim Beljaflah, founders of The Butik, their aim is "to uncover hidden talents from all around the world, to bring to our clients stories and experiences, and to connect them to the people behind the sewing machines." The Butik has partnered with Khaleejesque to promote the designers, which will be uncovered in a series of video interviews and articles. The second installment of the "The Butik Interviews" is that of Seoul based designers Steve J & Yoni P behind "Two Heads Are Better Than One."

Seoul based designers Steve J & Yoni P are by far the most eccentric fashion duo we have ever met and are the designers behind this quirky, trendy and contemporary "Two Heads Are Better Than One" label. Both having studied at the prestigious Central Saint Martins & London College of Fashion, they debuted their first collection at London Fashion Week in 2007; which was an instantaneous success. By injecting whimsy and funk into their designs, they have arguably become the most celebrated design team in Seoul with a flagship store in the trendy Itaewon district titled, “Two Heads are Better Than One”, and are inevitably on their way to global recognition.
Their personal style and characters are also reflected in their designs and can be described as “a harmony of incompatibles”; Steve J with his trademark Harry Potter like glasses and Yoni P with her Platinum blonde hair, bring some fresh sophisticated funk to the table.
They both met while studying fashion design in Korea and went on to complete their BA and MA in London together. Before starting their own brand they had already been together for some ten years, a marriage of the minds, senses and style. They do not have separate roles but rather complement each other; Steve focuses more on illustration and Yoni on concepts and designs. Yoni tells us that they are in sync all the time, which makes them the ultimate design duo that they are: “we share the whole process, from brainstorming, designing and making the garments. Like, we’ll just naturally go to the museums and libraries together, and we’re always discussing the fashion concepts, so it’s hard to say what [part of the collection] is Steve and what is Yoni.”
This dynamic funky duo have been participating in Concept Korea during New York Fashion Week for the last few seasons and by 2015 they hope to be, and we believe they will be, an established and recognizable label internationally.
