I can’t believe it has been a year already since I wrote about the new Fall 2011 TV shows! It’s been a crazy year with a lot of shows that have earned quite a buzz and had big stars as leads getting cancelled; such as Ringer, Missing and Charlie’s Angels. Fortunately, Revenge and American Horror Story have been the breakout hits of the past TV season. Many of our favorite shows are returning in the coming days (Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl) while a crop of new shows are being rolled out by the networks. Here are my top picks of the 2012 TV season:

The New Normal – From the creator of Glee and American Horror Story comes this heartfelt yet hilarious comedy about a successful gay couple who’ve been together for many years but still feel like something is missing… a baby. They meet a single mom who decides to be their surrogate, but they must put up with her daughter and racist grandmother who won’t leave her side.

Revolution – 15 years after the electricity in the entire world suddenly stopped working, people had to resort to living in small farming communities while being ruled by corrupt militia. The show focuses on the Matheson family, who possess a special device that is the key to not only finding out what happened fifteen years ago but also a possible way to reverse its effects. However, they must evade various enemies who want to possess that power for themselves. Revolution is produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) and the first episode is directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Cowboys & Aliens).

Elementary – Elementary is a modern update of the Sherlock Holmes detective stories set in New York starring Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson. Holmes is a former consultant with the Scotland Yard but moves to New York to help solve crimes with his new partner Watson while also dealing with his own demons and addiction problems.

666 Park Avenue – The show tells the story of a young couple who move into a luxurious apartment building in the Upper Side of New York and slowly discover that things aren’t as they seem. The tenants seem to be possessed by a mysterious demonic force and the owners of the building are somehow connected. 666 Park Avenue stars Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty), Terry O’Quinn (Lost) and Dave Annable (Brothers & Sisters)

Arrow – Based on the DC Comics superhero Green Arrow, Stephen Amell stars as billionaire playboy Oliver Queen who disappears for five years after a shipwreck only to return a changed man determined to right the wrongs of his past and restore peace and glory to his city.

Nashville – Nashville is a musical drama about Rayna, a 40 year old country music superstar whose star status is starting to fade. Her producers decide on having her go on a joint tour with up-and-coming singer Juliette but the two soon clash and a rivalry is created. The show stars Connie Britton (American Horror Story) and Hayden Panettiere (Heroes).

Be sure to also check out some of the lighter comedy shows like Go On starring Matthew Perry, The Neighbors, Animal Practice, and Partners. As it is every year, a lot of the shows will definitely get cancelled and it will be interesting to see which shows will be the big hits of the 2012-2013 TV season! What shows are you most excited about?
