It is a truth widely acknowledged that if one wanted to have a good summer then they must have a good playlist to act as a soundtrack. Unfortunately, what with the rise of awful and nearly sinfully bad music (I blame Justin Bieber and auto tune) finding a good track has become increasingly hard to do. But don’t fret! I’ve found some semi undiscovered gems for you to add to your playlists this summer.

Up All Night – One Direction

Okay, I know what you’re thinking but hear me out. 2012 is the year that marks the comeback of boy bands. That’s just a fact. I’m not ashamed to say that though I partially hate myself for getting sucked into the hype I will defend myself by saying there’s always going to be that one summer song that doesn’t have any musical merit but it’s just fun to dance and sing along to (i.e. Super Bass). All I’m saying is don’t knock till you’ve tried it.

Little Talks – Of Monster and Men

The debut single from Icelandic indie folk/indie pop band’s album is as strange and fun as the band itself and equally as fresh.

Good Life – OneRepublic

Always a great track to jam to in the car with the windows rolled down it’s most definitely one of the ultimate feel good songs that you can’t help but bob your head to.

Out on the Town – Fun

A great track from Fun.’s new album “Some Nights”  that’s fun (see what I did there?) to sing along to with it’s refreshing beat. Now if only it got as many radio plays as much We Are Young.

Life Happens – Brandon and Leah

A really cute track by a practically undiscovered duo. The song is so sweet it’s almost sickeningly so. However, it has a nice reggae feel to it in reminiscent of Jason Mraz’s “I’m yours.” Note:  Brandon’s full name is Brandon Jenner. Who would’ve thought that anyone remotely related to the Kardashians could possess any semblance of talent?

Paradise – Coldplay

Some good old Coldplay never fails. Para-para- yes!

1,000 Ships – Rachel Platten

I don’t know about you but I personally can’t stop myself from smiling when I listen to this song.

Tongue Tied – Grouplove

It’s only a matter of time till this song blows up. So before it gets overexposed playing everywhere have a chance to enjoy it before it becomes annoying.

Gold Rush – Ed Sheeran

A wonderful song by an angel disguised as a British ginger. The track is from Ed Sheeran’s debut album which is definitely worth checking out.

Everybody Talks – Neon Trees

A nice pop rock song with a fast beat that’s fun to scream along to while dancing in your pajamas at home.

– Haya Al-Farhan
