California-based artist, Joshua Abarbanel, makes wooden sculptures that capture the spirit of blossoming coral reefs.
The process involves him creating patterns on a computer, and then laser-cutting the patterns into assorted chunks of wood and staining some in different shades, before assembling them all together.
Each unique piece is beautiful on its own, and looks even more stunning once combined with the others in a cohesive structure that mirrors a coral reef.

Joshua is involved in an on-going examination of “the act of creation and the passage of time” by using shapes and patterns reminiscent of “biological, botanical, geological, and mechanical structures,” according to his personal website.
