TOKO has created quite a buzz around town, the opening party was a glamorous affair executed to perfection. The hype continues as the Japanese eatery is consistently getting raving reviews by everyone who has visited. An award-winning restaurant from Sydney, Australia it is located in the cities most happening area of town-Downtown Dubai.
Mixing traditional Japanese aesthetic with a modern twist, the décor is sophisticated and sleek. Designed by the celebrated Australian architect, Matthew Darwon, who also planned the Sydney venues, the colors and architecture are awe-inspiring. The inside has a more formal ambience, ideal for an intimate dinner. Outdoor is more relaxed with great water features and a spectacular canopy cleverly made with Japanese umbrellas.
Serving Izakaya style food, the JOTO menu for lunch is a must-try. A four-course meal there is plenty of variety to pick from for each course. The meal always begins with edamame-the favorite Japanese snack and a hot bowl of miso soup. The spicy edamame perfectly complimented the subtle flavored hearty soup.
Next came the lightly seared beef-beautifully seasoned with pickled daikon and yuzu koshu dressing, it was delicate yet flavorful. The delectable pan-fried scallops had a sharp kick because of the tasty spicy jalepeno dressing.
For our third course we tried the prawn and vegetable tempura-lightly battered it was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. The mix of nigiri and maki were made using the freshest of ingredients but sushi fans should try some of the more exotic rolls on the menu.
The final dish of Miso Black Cod definitely stole the show-the buttery fish and the slightly sweet saikyo miso sauce was absolutely divine.
Although dessert is not part of the menu guests must not leave before trying the chocolate fondant-a piping hot sponge cake that oozes out decadent almond and dark chocolate, scooped up the milk ice cream it is indulgent and satisfying.
The service is impeccable and the food is stylishly presented and it tastes fabulous. TOKO is an unforgettable dining experience.
