The Gramercy is always busy-good honest food, friendly service and ideal location within the financial district maze of buildings are the obvious reasons for its stellar reputation.
We ended up there on a weekday afternoon that also happened to coincide with the launch day of their new menu. Stylish with classic dark seating and high ceilings, The Gramercy could well be a bistro in the heart of New York City.
The menu is a cleverly thought out mix of a typical brasserie food and a high-end gastro-pub. We started off with the Grilled Foie Gras with Caramelized Apple, Chutney and Brioche, rich and decadent it was perfectly executed.
For the main, the Broiled Black Cod in Caramel Miso was buttery and melted in the mouth-the shiitake mushrooms and bok choy sauté that accompanied it were flavorful without being too overpowering.
When it came time for dessert we decided to be indulgent and opted for the classic French Mille Feuille. A great choice with delicate layers of crispy golden pastry filled with fluffy and sweet cream, it was an absolute delight.
The Gramercy is a no fuss and unpretentious brasserie serving posh food at affordable prices – so don’t be intimidated by the suited and booted and give it a try.
