The opening of Out of Kuwait, an exhibition which explores the social and physical landscapes of Kuwait, will take place on the 17 October 2012 at 7 P.M at the Museum of Modern Art, Kuwait. The exhibition which is in partnership with The British council, Contemporary Art Platform Kuwait (CAP), and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, will exhibit the work of twelve Kuwait-based artists in one venue.
The artists participating in this exhibition have examined the theme of landscape art in a period of one month through a program me called Landscapes Expanded. This was all inspired by the works of Britain's Landscape artists whose work is seen in the British Council's Out of Britain exhibition which is currently in the Contemporary Art Platform Kuwait. What is great about this opportunity is that it gave the artists a chance to explore various issues related to site, space and place. Artist and curator Alia Farid Abdal is behind Landscapes Expanded and various architects are participating in the programme, some of them include Aziz Al Humaidhi, Roa AlShaheen and architecture undergraduate Amani Adel Al Thuwaini. Other participants include English Literature graduate Zahra Al Mahdi and jewelry designer Muneera Al Sharhan.
"Out Of Britain is one of the largest cultural events the British Council Kuwait has organised in more than 50 years and is supported by a full month-long public campaign. As well as this artist residency, Landscapes Expanded includes a series of public lectures led by arts specialists from the UK and Kuwait, and an educational programme for schools."
Out of Kuwait will be open to the public at the Museum of Modern Art, Kuwait from 17 – 24 October 2012.
Out of Britain is currently exhibiting at Contemporary Art Platform Kuwait until 25 October 2012.
