Design Days Dubai will be launching a new series of monthly talks titled "Design Stories." The first talk in this series will be held at La Galerie Nationale in AlSerkal, Dubai on September 10, 2012.
Design Stories will focus on many important elements in design, including the history of art & design movements, design trends, and the global design market, among other things.
Design Days Dubai, first launched in March of 2012, is the first and only fair in the Middle East that is dedicated to modern and contemporary collectible and limited edition furniture and design pieces. This year's event, which was held in Downtown Dubai, at the foot of Burk Khalifa, saw participation from over 22 leading galleries from all around the world. The event attracted thousands of visitors, including collectors, designers and art enthusiasts.
Cyril Zammit, Fair Director of Design Days Dubai explained the reason behind the establishment of Design Stories saying, “Following the successful launch of Design Days Dubai last March, we wanted to carry forward access to the design world by inviting conversation, encouraging discussion and stimulating debate. ‘Design Stories’ will be focusing on the history behind key aesthetic movements, the market of design and the design trends. ‘Design Stories’ will involve local and international exhibitors and speakers from the 2013 edition of Design Days Dubai.”
The first Design Stories talk will also take place alongside the opening of Generation, a joint exhibition by Italian architect and designer Piero Alessandrini and Arnaud Riveren.
The discussion, which will be chaired by art & design writer Sandra Lane, will start off with Alessandrini, who will talk about his work and philosophy. He will be joined by Guillaume Cuiry, Director of La Galerie Nationale, and Chiara Alessandrini.
Piero Alessandrini, a graduate of the University of Rome's architecture school, began his career as an architect, and since 2007 has evolved into becoming a furniture designer as well. His impressive portfolio includes designing a number of prestigious private homes, including Villa Spalletti Trivelli and a villa for the Sultan of Brunei, as well as public buildings such as the Italian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and the Interior Ministry Academy in Rome.
‘Design Stories’ with Piero Alessandrini will take place at La Galerie Nationale, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz on Monday September 10, 2012 from 6pm – 7pm. (Entry is free of charge)
