This week’s installment explores another batch of Kuwaiti Areas and the meaning behind their names.
Bayan: Is a residential area within the Hawalli Governorate. Was named Bayan because it extends above the surrounding land.
أبوالحصانيه: سميت نسبةً الى الحصني، لكثرة وجوده بالمنطقة وتردد الصيادين على المنطقة لاصطياده
Abu Al-Hasaneya: Was named after hesni (wild fox), where the area was popular for hunting the fox.
جبله: سميت على القبلة وجهة الصلاة
Jibla: As in Qibla the direction of the Kaaba toward which Muslims turn for their daily prayers.
المرقاب: أرض مرتفعة "تلة"، وبني عليها مبنى لمراقبة الدخلاء
Al-Murqab: A raised land with surveillance tower built on it to watch intruders.
