Galeries Lafayette, the high-end department store and ESMOD Dubai, the famous fashion school recently collaborated to showcase the work of two upcoming designers by hosting a very exclusive fashion challenge-the first of its kind in the city. The work of the designers was displayed at Galleries Lafayette and media and VIPs were invited in-store for a chance to view and buy the collection.
Canella Hostal and Fatemah Banizaman, were the highest performing in their graduating class and were nominated to compete against one another in the fashion design contest. The pair were given the challenge to create an Autumn/Winter Capsule collection titled ‘Soufle de L’Est’ (Eastern Breeze). The designer who has a higher number of sales by December will also be given a prize that includes an in-store window display and a chance to sell one entire collection at the store.
The partnership between Galleries Lafayette and ESMOND further reinforces Dubai's reputation as one of the leading fashion capital's of the world. A city where there is homegrown emerging talent and they are given the right platform and resources to launch themselves.
“For Galeries Lafayette, the aim was to demonstrate the importance of installing faith and encouragement in young designers and to enable them to demonstrate their ability to create fresh and unique fashion collections” comments Etienne Roy the COO of Galeries Lafayette.
