Whenever you hear the words 'first ever', it's always interesting to hear what comes next. How about this? Omani sailor becomes first ever woman to compete in the grand 2013 Rolex Fastnet Race with her team, Oman Air-Musandam. Having a crew of experienced foreign and Omani sailors and crew members, you'd consider putting your money on this team winning.

Being the first ever woman to compete in the Rolex Fastnet Race, Raiya did not hide her excitement about this accomplishment and talked about how nervous she was about being the 'first ever'. “I didn’t get much sleep last night because I was so excited and nervous in equal measure so it was good to meet up with the rest of the team this morning and get on board and get busy."

The race featured an amazing 342 boats from all over the world and even though Raiya did not end up winning, her efforts and passion will be remembered by the people of Oman and the Gulf and we thank her for making history.
