This year the Women's Cultural and Social Society (WCSS) celebrated 50 years of its active role in the Kuwaiti society with a special ceremony under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The WCSS have been trying to empower women since its establishment in 1963. Its goal has always been to raise awareness on the fundamental rights of Kuwaiti women.
The WCSS' Chairperson Mrs. Sheikha Al Nusf said in the ceremony celebrating the golden anniversary, "We celebrate today 50 years of giving and hard work for the benefit of local and international communities. WCSS' story is like a growing plant that was watered by its belief in God, our nation, human rights, and women’s rights in particular."
It is worthy of mentioning that the WCSS was the first NGO society established in Kuwait with an objective of defending women's cultural, political, economical and intellectual rights in the country. It was successful in raising awareness towards the cause of women's rights.
A lovely celebration was held at Arraya Ballroom and included an artistic show of sand painting by artist Diana Rosa from Spain. The group also hosted 25 activists from 14 countries; all activists that were chosen are known for their influential roles in political, cultural and women's rights.
