A buzzing art and design event is coming up soon in Bahrain's infamous Block 338! Al Riwaq Art Space, a leading non-profit arts organization dedicated to promoting art and design in Bahrain is launching Market 338, a two-week art and design fair from the 29th of November to the 15th December 2012.
Inspired by a traditional souq, the area will be transformed into a modern bazaar with local and regional artists selling their designs. The venue will also feature design-led workshops and musical performances by local artists, which include Al Harith, Ryan& Zahid, Khalil Rasool and many other scheduled performers.
Market 338 will include a special design project which focuses on the theme Explore, Create and Play. Zid Zid Kids, the Marrakech designers, will be working with local children and youth to construct two outdoor playgrounds using natural and recycled materials.
Bayan Al-Barak Kanoo, Director of Al Riwaq Art Space, stated regarding the fair, “This is a first of its kind design market in Bahrain. An event like this is central to Al Riwaq’s vision of nurturing local and regional talents while providing a platform to promote their work to a wider audience. It truly reflects the important ways in which Al Riwaq Art Space contributes to the current renaissance in product design and art throughout the GCC.”
Al Riwaq Art space started generating buzz on this fair with a series of 6 training workshops. Spanish designers Juan Manuel Vegas and Ananda Pascual, Dubai-based artist Lara Assouad Khoury, and Bahraini instructor Amna Al Rumaihi, all led workshops in the areas of product design, fashion design, typography, and branding.
This fair was made possible with the support of Bahrain's Economic Development Board, British Council and the regional media partners which include Khaleejesque (Kuwait), Design Magazine (Jeddah), WTD Magazine (Dubai), Oasis (Saudi Arabia) and FACT Magazine (Bahrain).
