Tuesday evening, the 25th April 2011, saw the opening of Dar Al Mashreq Gallery. Owned and curated by Khaled Al Asfour, the gallery houses a diverse collection of contemporary Arab and, more specifically, Kuwaiti art. Located on the second floor of Salhia Complex, Dar Al Mashreq also displays some of Al-Asfour's personal art collection.
Having amassed quite a notable amount of artworks over the years, Al-Asfour found himself to be an art collector without him realizing it. More recently, this hobby inspired Al-Asfour to establish an art gallery as an ode to this newfound interest. With sleek white floors, a striking black roof, and a wide inviting space, the gallery is equal parts inviting and stimulating.
Among the attendees at the opening were artists Shurooq Amin, Maha Al-Mansour, Sami Mohammad, Thuraya Al-Baqsami, Mahmoud Ashkanani, Khazaal Al Gaffas, and Mohammad Qambar among others. Artwork by some of the above mentioned artists as well as those by Jassem Bu Hamad, and Egyptian artists Omar Al Najdi and George Bahjouri are on display at the gallery.
Dar Al Mashreq is located at Salhia Complex, Mezannine 2, Shop #16.
The gallery is open from 10am – 1pm and 5pm – 8pm every day except for Fridays. Tel: 22996447
