Finding locally sourced organic food had always been impossible in Dubai, till we were introduced to Ripe Me. Owned by Becky Balderstone, an expat living in Dubai, Ripe Me was born thanks to Becky's passion for promoting organic vegetables and fruits produced by farmers in the UAE.
Ripe Me flourished due to the growing awareness in the region about the importance of local organic produce, and soon saw a huge demand for it's products locally. The weekly indoor farmers’ market organized by Ripe Me has created quite a buzz within the community. Families come together to buy the vegetables and also mingle with others creating not only a sense of community, but great environmental awareness making Ripe Me a promising social initiative that is changing Dubai’s eating habits.
Buying organic might not be the determining factor for saving the environment but it definitely patronizes local businesses, reduces the carbon footprint and of course allows us to eat healthier, fresher food that tastes better.
Ripe Me is available every Saturday at the Dubai Garden Centre. You can choose to either buy the boxes with a variety of different products or individual items. Although the produce varies according to what is available that week, there is always a good mix of herbs, mushrooms, potatoes, capsicum and tomatoes.
