With their exquisite Moroccan contemporary creations, Dar en Art aspires to create designs that promote the Oriental essence in both France and other countries. Boasting an impressive modern line, Dar en Art aims to expose all the young talented Moroccan designers by allowing them to work on commissioned furniture concepts. Finding inspiration from geographical landmarks, Arabic calligraphy, history and design, this studio makes sure to pour a lot of thought and passion into every piece.
We caught up with the people behind Dar en Art to find out more about their concept and the talents behind the designs.
What is the store's concept?
The concept of Dar en Art is very simple: to promote Moroccan designers and contemporary Oriental creations, both in France and abroad. Dar en Art is the first portal of access to designers inspired by traditions and centuries of know-how. Their creations are really contemporary and allow to have a new vision of this design.
How would you describe the furniture?
The furniture and decoration accessories are oriental inspirations, lines and materials are modern and sleek, responding to industrial and French manufacturing requirements.
Who are the artists involved in creating the pieces?
Young and talented designers like Mostapha El Oulhani, Charles Kalpakian, Sophia Tazi, Karim Alaoui and many others.
What inspires you when creating the designs?
Geographical meanings like for the Gibraltar sofa (see the design of the sofa inspired by the Rock of Gibraltar) or the Arabic calligraphy used for the Aarif candlesticks. But also the uses, history and Arab architecture (see the bookcase "The Hive" inspired by moucharabieh design).
How long does it normally take you to create one piece? What are the upcoming collections?
Creation depends on designers inspirations. It usually takes 3 to 6 months between the prototype and the available piece, and it usually takes 1 to 2 months of production.
What are the future plans for Dar en Art?
Dar en Art today is a design editor working with shops, architects and decorators, in France and abroad. Dar en Art is now referenced by Conran Shop Contracts, which is a strong recognition of both quality and creativity. We hope it is the first step of a long list to partnerships and developments. After all, why not imagine to have the opportunity one day to decorate an entire hotel with Dar en Art furniture!
