Get ready for a peek behind the curtain of social media stardom in the Gulf region. OSN+ has announced that The Fashionista, its first original mini-series, will premiere on January 9, 2025. This six-episode dramedy promises a satirical take on the glamorous yet cutthroat world of influencers, exploring themes of ambition, rivalry, and the quest for online fame.

The Fashionista follows Maryam, a self-help enthusiast turned aspiring influencer whose journey takes unexpected turns as she navigates the complexities of digital drama. The series, filmed entirely in Kuwait, showcases regional talent and creativity, and features a cast including Lulu Al Mulla, Bibi Alabdulmohsen, and Ascia.

With a narrative style reminiscent of Sex and the City and a shocking finale akin to The White Lotus, the series promises humor, heart, and unexpected twists. It's a love letter to the Gulf's vibrant social media scene, offering a glimpse into the realities of influencer culture while exploring deeper questions about fame, friendship, and authenticity.

In an interview with the creators and actors of the OSN+ miniseries The Fashionista, Yousef Al-Qenaei, the show's creator, discusses his inspiration for the show, noting his fascination with the complexities and diverse motivations of social media influencers. He shares, “I personally really enjoy TV that is representative, but also, at the same time, has some sort of escapism to it. When we talk about social media influencers, we tend to paint them with the same same brush, when, in reality, they're super different. So I wanted to create something that spoke to that and shows the complexities of different characters.”

Ascia shared her excitement about being part of OSN's first miniseries and the unique opportunity to represent Kuwaiti culture and talent. She praised the high production value and the show's focus on Kuwaiti identity. Ascia said, “I really wanted to find really cool, interesting things that pushed the boundaries of what it means to be Kuwaiti, what it means to be from this region, what it means to be in the acting space in specifically our country.”

Lulwa AlMulla expresses her pride in taking on a leading role and showcasing the complexities of her character. She highlights the show's exploration of psychological depth and its potential to elevate Kuwaiti television production. She shared, “I’m happy to be working on an original show with OSN+. I appreciate how much effort they are putting in on all aspects. From production details to press coverage. It’s elevating what we are used to and taking it to a new level.”

The Fashionista joins OSN+'s growing slate of original content, marking a significant step in the platform's commitment to supporting regional productions and delivering premium Arabic-language entertainment. So, mark your calendars and prepare to be immersed in a world where ambition and rivalry collide amidst the ever-evolving landscape of social media fame.
