British designer Marina Qureshi based both in Dubai and London, offers a collection of designs that ooze elegance and femininity. With a focus on intricate details and contemporary cuts, she is able to propose an assortment of graceful eveningwear, gowns and cocktail dresses worn by prominent personalities. Qureshi, with her designs, aims to influence the British and International fashion scene. Her creations reflect her romantic vision and signature style that she wishes to pass on to cosmopolitan women everywhere.
What inspires you to create such designs?
The alluring French lace, the intricate details and the unique embellishments, which make every piece a masterpiece, is what attracts me.
What is your background in fashion design? And how did that experience help your work?
Initially I studied at ESMOD in Dubai, and then I travelled back to London and studied at Central Saint Martins. After graduating, I did a lot of internships including Alexander McQueen and backstage. Internships are very essential. I undertook several placements under various designers: regional, international and some aspiring. Each experience was completely unique and very informative.
How did you manage to launch your own fashion line?
It was hard, but luckily had my family support.
Did you find it difficult to make a name internationally?
Very hard, It needs a lot of work, marketing, creativity. I have a long way to go.
What kind of feedback did you get on the collection?
Positive feedback on the fitting, finishing, fabric, detail, and look books.
Walk us through your process of launching a new collection…
I think about what has been inspiring me and create my mood boards. From there it’s a methodical process: colors, fabric, trimmings, toile, toile again and then the final sample.
What kind of women do you target when creating your designs?
A Marina Qureshi woman is one who carries her self with confidence and grace. She is elegant yet exciting, perhaps someone like Kate Middleton.
What is your vision for your brand? And where do you see yourself in a couple of years?
I see the brand growing a lot, but I don’t know where it will take me. I am also always considering options like creating luxury footwear collection or perhaps a diffusion line to appeal to a more contemporary kind of girl.
What achievements are you proud of so far?
The label is picking pace. Being featured on Vogue.co.uk has been a stepping-stone, the Red Dress at the Oscar’s, Florence Welch performed in Marina Qureshi twice.
What makes fashion designing a fulfilling career for you?
It is always what I have dreamt about, anything else doesn’t feel right.
Does the fact that you were born in an Arab country help you in marketing your clothing to the Arab Gulf region?
Yes, Dubai has supported me so much and promoted me as “Dubai Born Designer.” Someone they are proud to have.

Valentino!
Who is someone you’re proud to say has worn your collection?
Florence Welch, Elie Goulding and Lara Stone.
Where has your collection been exhibited so far?
We showcase every season in Paris, my last collection was showcased in Vendome Luxury Trade show.
