With the help of a star studded cast, a French director and an authentic Arab story, Doha Film Institute and Quinta Communications are co-producing their first major international movie titled Black Gold. Antonio Banderas and Freida Pinto, Tahar Rahim, Mark Strong, Riz Ahmed and Liya Kebede star in this adaptation of The Great Thirst which is a classic novel written by Hans Reusch. The Jean-Jacques Annaud directed movie has major battle scenes which were filmed in the stunning dessert dunes of Mesaieed and Shamal in Qatar. Filming those scenes took over a four-week period.

Black Gold tells the story of two emirs who agree on respecting a land that is positioned between their desert kingdoms. Tension starts building up though after oil is discovered in the land, both emirs fight for control over the area to benefit from its riches. The film includes several battle scenes that are set in the 1930’s. Fahad Al Kubaisi, a Qatari singer, was chosen to sing the opening track of the film which is composed by the famous James Horner.

Black Gold will be premiering during the 3rd Doha Tribeca Film Festival which will start October 25 and we really can't wait to see how it will turn out!
