Most fashion support programs pick a side. They train designers, or they fund production, or they teach the business end, and a founder is left to stitch the rest together on their own. Dubai Culture's newest initiative is trying to hold all three at once, and it is opening applications for its first cohort this month.

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, working with the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, has launched Made in Dubai for Fashion Entrepreneurship, the first program of its kind in the emirate built specifically around fashion. The goal is not to teach design in the abstract but to help designers turn an existing idea into a brand that can actually survive contact with a retail shelf, developed as part of the Design Sector Strategy 2033, Dubai's push to position itself as a global hub for design talent and industry expertise.

The program runs across eight weekends between September 19 and November 8, 2026, and is built around a working assumption that most fashion founders already know how to design. What they are usually missing is everything downstream of that: how to work with local ateliers and manufacturers, how to price a collection so it survives contact with a real market, how to build a brand identity that reads as more than a moodboard. Made in Dubai structures its curriculum around exactly that gap, pairing individual and group mentorship with applied workshops on brand identity, marketing strategy, financial planning, product development, pricing, and retail readiness.

It is a deliberately small cohort. The program is accepting just 15 designers, open to UAE nationals and residents who already have a clear vision for an existing fashion label and are looking to sharpen it into something commercially viable, rather than newcomers starting from a blank page. Applications open August 3 and close August 28, 2026, with submissions assessed on craftsmanship, seriousness of the underlying project, production readiness, and clarity of growth vision.

Participants will also get direct exposure to Dubai's production landscape through sessions focused on local manufacturing, growth strategy, and structured access to designers, manufacturers, retailers, and industry specialists, exposure that is often the harder thing for an independent designer to arrange alone. The program closes with a final showcase, where participants present their collections and brand development plans to a panel of fashion industry specialists.

"The fashion sector represents one of the vital industries contributing to the development of the creative economy, given its ability to transform ideas into innovative products and brands that carry cultural and economic value and reflect the vibrancy of Dubai's creative scene," said Kholoud Khoury, Director of the Design Department at Dubai Culture. She described Made in Dubai as a practical pathway that helps designers develop their brands, refine their creative identity, and strengthen their market readiness, reinforcing Dubai's position as a global hub for design.

Applications close August 28, 2026.
