Just some time ago, Saffar launched its collection of Dual Bowls that were developed from working with Al-Wafi craftsmen on tableware. Kawthar Al-Saffar is the principle owner of Saffar, which was developed during her industrial design BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, and is now also made up of a group of creatives.
The Dual Bowls are irreplaceable, one-of-a-kind castings made with an unexpected combination of metals. Saffar has had its pieces showcased at Nuqat, D3 in Dubai, and Milan Design Week.
In order to support this business, Saffar has decided to raise funds by using Kickstarter where you can pledge an amount and be rewarded by their very own product. Kickstarter is an online platform that helps artists, filmmakers, designers and other creators find the resources and support they need to make their ideas a reality, and the best part is that if the project has not reached it’s target goal, you do not lose your money.
The pledge amounts you can make range from £1 to £1,900, with the highest pledge awarding you with their statement piece that was made for Khaleej 2016 and D3 in Dubai. Smaller pledges of £10 gets you a soundscape of Souq Al-Saffar by Amin Fari, £30 for a P.L.U book showcasing peoples stories, a range of prices that can get you small, medium, or large dual bowls, as well as £135 for intro classes to sand-casting, nighttime photographer, or soundscaping.
The funds that will be generated via this project will be used to establish the Saffar brand, funding new collaborative projects, and renovating its potential home in the landmark carpentry shop built by Ahmen Al-Banna in 1957.
These objects capture stories and experiences, and the enjoyment of the product is important to those behind Saffar as they have put attention into every detail, and the casting methods and materials have been tested endlessly, and refined down to the three favorite casting colors, three casting options, in three sizes.
The Dual Bowls launch party is also being held today to celebrate the product launch. The event will be taking place today, April 20th, from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. at Al-Banna Carpentry in the Sharq Industrial Area. Click here for the location on Google Maps.
