Downtown Design is the Middle East’s platform for original design, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Head of the ‘Higher Advisory Committee’ of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority. In October 2014, the Fair will be back for its second edition, and is gearing up to bring together an impressive lineup of the world’s finest brands.
Covering over 9 key design sectors including furniture, lighting, kitchens, bathrooms, accessories, textiles, carpets and new technologies, some of the most respected designs from around the world will be participating in the Fair, including Vitra, Preciosa and Gaggenau to Axor, Fritz Hansen and De Vecchi.
In her second year of running the Fair, Cristina Romelli Gervasoni, Fair Director of Downtown Design discusses this year’s Fair; “At Downtown Design, we are bringing the best that Europe, the US, and the Middle East have to offer in terms of projects and products that reflect the evolution of original design worldwide, focused on beauty and functionality, innovation and timeless quality.”
Swiss–based company Vitra will be featuring new collections based on the iconic creations of Charles and Ray Eames which have made their way into museums all over the world –including the celebrated Vitra Design Museum, one of the world’s leading museums dedicated to design. The infamous collections of Vitra chairs have been selected by many high-end commercial buildings across the globe, including the Dubai International Airport.

Lighting is a design feature that can transform a space through different installations. This year at the Fair, Czech-based lighting master Preciosa, whose heritage is directly linked to the early Bohemian crystal glass makers and whose light fixtures adorn from the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles to the world’s finest hotels such as the Yas Viceroy and One and Only Palm Jumeirah in the UAE, will be unveiling its newest creations of crystal light fixtures.

Axor by Hansgrohe, is a brand that has changed the world of bathroom design and have collaborated with designers such as Philippe Starck, Jean-Marie Massaud, Patricia Urquiola and Ronan and Erwan Bouroulle. With more than 300 international awards, Axor will be launching their latest collections and innovations at the Fair this year at a stand which will host a stunning experiential display.
Italian-based Elica, recipient of the ADI Design Index award for Star, a beautifully crafted stovetop hood that resembles a modern crystal chandelier. Elica boasts a design that is practical but also innovative, and respectful to the environment. The brand will also be present at the Fair.

The second edition of Downtown Design will be held at the foot of Burj Khalifa from 28 – 31 October 2014.
