We were invited by Spanish luxury brand Loewe to celebrate their latest project, "Best Hands of Spain." The initiative pays homage to Spanish craftsmanship by working with local Spanish artisan brands to create four distinct products from Spain which will thereby be sold internationally under the Loewe label.
One of the brands Loewe worked with was Castaner, a Spanish family brand famous for making the traditional rope shoes best known as espadrilles. Available in eight colors and various different leathers, the shoe is a must-have for all fashionistas this season.
The Spanish fan, another famous symbol, was manufactured in collaboration with Caronell, a renowned fan manufacturer in Spain who created a ‘Spanish Baroque’ fan that uses napa leather and ebony; and which is also part of this "Best Hands of Spain" collection.
Working with Carrera Iglesias, Loewe included brightly colored beautifully hand embroidered manton de Manila (Spanish silk shawls) into the collection. Each intricate piece was worked on by two embroiderers and took four months to complete.
A product which caught our eyes in this capsule collection were cute handcrafted animals that were cleverly made with leftover pieces of leather. Loewe’s own in-house team, based in Madrid, were behind the clever creation of the handcrafted animals. The project was born when one of the workers just played around with leftover pieces of leather.
The Loewe Dubai team walked the guests through the project and explained the history behind each piece. A retired artisan from the Loewe factory in Spain was also on site working on the famous signature ‘Amazona’ handbag. The audience was able to appreciate the meticulous details and the time that goes into each piece, a fitting tribute to the Spanish art of craftsmanship.
