Surge – Issue 29
Published Sept/Oct 2017
A note from our Managing Editor, Reham Alawadhi:
September is here and the summer holidays are coming to an end. With this comes more traffic (sadly) but also, (finally) some cooler weather. Now that everyone will be back from their summer getaways, we want to ensure you have a lot of personalities and initiatives to explore back here in the Gulf.
Our cover star is Saudi Arabian documentary photographer, Tasneem Al-Sultan who has been documenting the realities of Saudi women as well as other social issues around the world.
This issue’s photoessay by Kuwait’s first female storm chaser, Sara Al-Sayegh, takes us on a storm chasing journey, witnessing haboobs, monsoons, and tornadoes, around the U.S. Over in Saudi Arabia we noticed the shifting treatment of Saudi women, who can now take physical education classes in public schools.
We took a trip to the heart of Vietnam with OxAdventure and in Qatar we learned more about the Fire Station program, an initiative that gives local and Qatari artists a space to thrive. We hope our inspiring personalities encourage you to rise up and take action in your own lives.
Please note: Issues will be delivered starting September 25, 2017
