A note from our Managing Editor, Lucy Moore:
“Sitting in the warmth of Dubai’s December breeze, observing how it didn’t feel like winter at all, I reminisced of my first visit to the cosmopolitan city five years ago. It’s changed a lot since then, or rather my perception of it. Today I visit as a cultural tourist, seeking creativity, an aspect many fail to acknowledge. Yet with monumental projects dedicated to the creative industry, eyes from around the world are turning toward the Khaleej.
At our HQ, we have big plans for 2017; with the success of Khaleejesque Nights at the end of last year, even more entertainment nights will be coming to our audience across the Gulf this year. We’ll also be launching Plus; a series of curated cultural travel tours featuring exclusive dinners and unique activities.
In print we have an exciting line-up. We’re opening the year with ethereal “structured free-faller” Noaf Hussein. Over to Oman, we found breathtaking artisanal products, and in Bahrain we spoke with word artist Wrista. Down to Qatar, we met sports rebel Nada Zeidan, and professional cartoonist Abdulaziz Yousif. In Saudi we discovered Fashion Designer Mohammed Khoja, and Embroiderer Meshail Al-Faqeeh. This year we’re taking off around the Khaleej.”

كنـت جالسـة أسـتمتع بـدفء نسـيم دبـي في شـهر ديسـمبر، اراقـب الشـتاء الرائـع الـذي لاتشـعر بـه في تلـك المدينـة. تذكـرت زيـارتي الأولى إليهـا منـذ خمـس سـنوات. لقـد حـدث الكثـر منـذ ذلـك الحـن، أو بالأحـرى هـذا مـا أعتقـد. أمـا اليـوم فأنـا أزور دبـي كسـائحة تسـعى إلى الثقافـة والإبـداع، وهـو جانـب فشـل الكثـرون في الاعـراف بـه. ولكـن الأمـر اختلـف مـع وجـود مشـاريع ضخمـة متخصصـة بالصناعـة الإبداعيـة، حيـث تتجـه
العيـون مـن مختلـف أنحـاء العالـم نحـو الخليـج.
لدينـا في مقرنـا الرئيـي خطـط كبـرة للعـام الجديـد ٢٠١٧. فمـع نجـاح ”ليـالي خليجسـك“ في العـام المـاضي، سـتزداد لدينـا ليـالي الرفيـه وأعـداد الجمهـور في منطقـة الخليـج لهـذا العـام أكـر فأكـر. كمـا سـنطلق سلسـلة إضافيـة مـن الأسـفار الثقافيـة الـي تضـم وجبـات عشـاء
مميـزة وأنشـطة فريـدة مـن نوعهـا.
في مجـال الطباعـة لدينـا خطـة عمـل مثـرة للإهتمـام، فلدينـا مـع انطـاق السـنة الجديـدة اثنـن مـن ألمـع النجـوم الشـباب في البحريـن. نفتتـح هـذه السـنة مـع الكويتيـة الرقيقـة الخارجـة عـن النمطيـة نـوف حسـن، صفحـة٥٤،مـروراًبُعمـان،مررنـابمنتجـاتمذهلـة تـأسر الأنفـاس، الصفحـة ٢٨ ، وفي البحريـن تحدثنـا مـع فنـان الكلمـة ”ريسـتا“، الصفحـة ٩٢. وصـولا إلى قطـر، حيـث إلتقينـا بالمتمـردة الرياضيـة نـدى زيـدان، الصفحـة ٢٢، ورسـام الكاريكاتـر المحـرف عبـد العزيـز يوسـف، الصفحـة ٤٨. وفي السـعودية اكتشـفنا مصمـم الأزيـاء محمـد خوجـة، الصفحـة ٤٠، والمطـرزة مشـاعل فقيـه، الصفحـة ٣٤. أمـا في هـذا العـام فسـتقلع رحلتنـا
الإبداعيـة في جميـع أنحـاء الخليـج.
